Women who Inspire our MSA Health Care Specialists – International Women’s Day
We are delighted that two of our very own inspirational women have shared the women who have inspired them in their working lives:
Jill Lyons, our MSA Nurse Specialist in the South and West writes:
I have been reflecting on women who inspire me, and it is great to remember some of the amazing nurses who have gone before. I contemplate my paternal grandmother who like me was a nurse and also had three sons, her youngest (my father) and my youngest sharing their birthday, how similar and yet different our lives?
However, the women that inspire me on a daily basis are my colleagues at the MSA Trust and within the NHS supporting and caring for people living with MSA, as well as carers and people living with MSA who face the challenges MSA brings with such bravery.
Emma Saunders, our MSA Nurse Specialist in the Midlands, reflects on her inspiration in the research world:
Professor Clare Fowler CBE is a doctor and academic who created the subspecialty of uro-neurology, a medical field that combines urology and neurology. The development of this service led to improved symptom management and care of people with conditions like MSA. She worked at the Institute of Neurology, University College London, where she is an emeritus professor.
As the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the MSA Trust for eight years, following her retirement from ION, UCL. Clare wrote the MSA Trust’s first Research Strategy in 2010. During her years of service to The Trust, Clare was a passionate advocate for our members and people with MSA.
In 2012 she received the award of Commander of the British Empire for services to Uro-neurology.
