MSA Trust

New Year, new plans

A New Year message from the Trust’s CEO, Karen Walker

2016 has already got off to a very busy start. We’re gearing up for MSA Awareness month in March, two Service of Light events, fundraising activities, tea parties and much more.

These are all to ensure we have the tools to continue to support the MSA community as much as we can. The Information and Services team is busy finalising their plans for updating guides for healthcare professionals, the latest MSA News requires it’s next edit before publication, and our MSA Nurse Specialists are filling their diaries rapidly with Support Groups, specialist clinics and training sessions.

The Services team is also finalising the Hospital Admission Pack – we contacted supporters at the end of 2015 to see if this would be a good resource and received a resounding thumbs up. If any members or supporters would like to review the pack please let us know, we really need your feedback. You can contact the Services team on support@msatrust.org.uk.

No two days are ever the same at the MSA Trust, which always makes it exciting and challenging and ultimately rewarding, even though we are dealing with one of the hardest pieces of news people and their loved ones will ever have to face.

Our Scientific Advisory Panel met in late November 2015 to discuss the current research projects we have funded and how they are progressing. It was an amazing afternoon, with much to learn from our prestigious researchers and their teams. One of our lay members, John Telford, blogged about the meeting just before Christmas, I hope you enjoyed reading about it. Our next quest is to ensure we have the funds available to continue research next year.

Although we are keeping busy and making plans, including finalising the budget for the next financial year, we know none of this is possible without YOUR amazing support throughout the year. So, in the spirit of preparing for the year ahead, I want to say thank you so much to everyone who has contributed and continues to contribute in many ways. Your generosity of spirit and your thoughtfulness to others who find themselves facing the same devastating diagnosis fills all of us here in the office with awe. It inspires us to continue to do our utmost to try to alleviate some of your difficulties and to support you on this journey.

Here’s to a peaceful 2016 for us all and a bumper year for fundraising so that we can support even more people living with MSA.

Karen
