Payroll Giving

Payroll giving is an easy and tax effective way to support your favourite charity!

What Is Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving is a scheme which allows you to donate through your payroll and on a tax-free basis, to a charity of your choice. Your charitable donations are then deducted from your gross pay before tax. This could be a regular monthly donation or it could be a one-off donation, whichever you prefer!

Why Sign Up to Payroll Giving?
Payroll Giving allows you to give directly from your salary before tax is deducted. So, if you wanted to make a monthly donation of £10 to the MSA Trust; it will only cost you £8 if you are a standard rate taxpayer (20%); or £6 if you are a higher rate taxpayer (40%). Ultimately, this means that the money you donate will go even further in supporting our vital work.

Is There an Administration Fee?
Yes, a small fee is usually payable as donations are collected by a payroll giving agency who need to cover their operating costs in collecting your donation and then distributing it to your chosen charity. Some very kind employers will actually cover this fee on your behalf, so that the MSA Trust will receive your full donation. If this is not the case, typically 2-4% of your donation will be deducted by the giving agency before they pass on the funds to us.

Is There a Minimum Donation Amount?
There is no minimum donation amount through Payroll Giving, so how much you give and how often is entirely up to you.

How Do I Stop My Payroll Giving Donation?
To stop your regular Payroll Giving donation, simply speak with your employer’s Payroll Department who will be able to bring these donations to a close.

What Happens If I Leave My Job?
If you leave your job, your regular donations will automatically be stopped – but if you want to keep giving this way, you can visit the Payroll Department at your new workplace and ask to be re-entered on the scheme!

I’m Outside of the UK, Can I Set-Up Payroll Giving for the MSA Trust?
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to arrange Payroll Giving for people based outside of the UK – but don’t worry, you could still support us with a one-off donation or even a regular donation via PayPal.

Can the Trust Claim Gift Aid on My Payroll Giving?
No, as your donations will be made pre-tax, they will not be eligible for Gift Aid.

I’m Not Sure My Company Offers Payroll Giving. What Should I Do?
The best way to find out if your company offers Payroll Giving is to ask your Payroll Department.

My Employer Doesn’t Offer Payroll Giving at the Moment. Can I Contact You to Find Out More?
