Nicki Wheeler’s Virtual London Marathon experience

There were many amazing stories from our runners and supporters who competed in the London Marathon 2021, either at the event or virtually. Nicki Wheeler is one of those superheroes who worked so hard to raise funds for MSA Trust.

Here, her Mother and Father-in-law Gill and Paul (who has MSA) describe to Karen how focused and dedicated she has been:

“Nicki started fund raising when she signed up for the Marathon in April. She organised a cream tea afternoon and a quiz and asked for sponsorship for the marathon itself.

She has been so disciplined with her training regime that on the day she did the full 26.2 miles in 4 hours 7 minutes, a fantastic time. A few others ran sections of the distance with Nicki to keep her spirits up.

Gill and I jumped from point to point to cheer her on and Nicki’s daughters, Josie and Alaia were also there to cheer for their Mum, along with lots of other supporters, including Lu, Joanne and Lily and some of her clients from her Beauty Salon and a 107 year old resident of the care home where Nicki works part-time.

Finally, at the end Paul got to hold the finish line and cheer Nicki through and proudly present her with a marathon medal mad by her friend Jo in lieu of the wait she will have to get the real one!!
