MSA Trust

Better together

Head of Services, Andy Barrick, explains how the Trust is working collaboratively to ensure the voice of people affected by MSA is heard more widely.

The Trust has been a member of the Neurological Alliance since 2012. The Alliance is a group of 80 organisations working to improve the lives of the millions of people in England with a neurological condition.

We also work with other organisations on specific issues – our MSA Nurse Specialists have recently been involved in proposed guidance to identify urinary tract infections (UTI’s) more quickly. This problem is common among people living with MSA. We’ll keep you posted about the outcome.

In the autumn, we’ll be looking at how the new proposals for revalidation of the Code of Professional Standards from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) will impact on our own MSA Nurse Specialists. As you would expect with the high quality of support they offer, our nurses are currently validated and meet professional standards. However, we will need to make sure that they can remain registered so that the people we serve continue to get excellent service and can feel confident that our nurses meet the standards expected. The proposals are due to be finalised in October 2015.

As you can see there’s a lot going on. If you have any questions or concerns please email us at support@msatrust.org.uk, or comment below.
