Saliva management

MSA causes problems with muscle movement and co-ordination throughout the body. Reduced movement of your face, mouth and throat muscles may mean difficulties with moving saliva around your mouth and spontaneously swallowing. This may cause saliva to pool at the front of your mouth and escape through your lips.

There are some tips your Speech and Language Therapist can give you to improve this and also medication that may reduce the amount of saliva your salivary glands produce. For further ideas to manage this please see our factsheet below.
