Post Any other Ladies with MSA ?

Hi...my name is Lin.
I was diagnosed with probable MSA just over a year ago and found the old MSA Trust website soon after. I was grateful for the information pack they provided, but delighted when I found the new website had included a forum !

Since joining, I have been " chatting " with some very informative gentleman and have already picked up some useful tips, on how to deal with this condition we share.

However.....out of 26 members who have registered on this Forum.....surely I am not the only woman with MSA ??

Come on Ladies....don't be shy ! It would be great to meet you on here.....come and keep me company.

Regards
Lin x

Hi Diane

Pleased to 'meet' you !

Yes I agree the new site is great & loads of info passed on already. I am 65 in July & my problems started about the same time as your Mum's !

I have put my symptoms on Angela's topic...have a look & see if they are similiar to how your Mum is now. Does she come on this site herself ? If not, please say hi from me...by the way, what is her name ???

If there is anything you, or she, wants to ask...please dont hesitate, I am happy to chat anytime.

Lin xx

Hi Gay...welcome to the Forum !
I am Lin & I have a million questions I could bombard you with...but..I will be restrained & just ask when you were diagnosed ?
You have probably read all the other posts on here, so I wont bore you with all my info either !!
One other question...is your name short for Gaynor & have you any links with the Isle of Man ??? Depending on your answer, I will explain another time !!

The Forum has gone a bit quiet lately but I am sure all the other members will be happy to have another viewpoint & input from a new source.

Welcome again & hope you will continue to post.

Regards

Lin x

Hi
I am Sarah, Gay's eldest daughter I suggested Mum goes on this forum as she can talk to other MSA sufferers. She regularly goes to meetings and coffee mornings with Parkinson Sufferers.
Gay, I'm sure she'll tell you, is short for Gayanna. She takes ages typing (as with talking) so my Dad helps her out. I live in London so I can't help as much as I want to, I visit her a lot as she can't come up on her own, on the coach, like she used to.
Mum was diagnosed with Ataxia about 5 years ago then told she had MSA just over a year ago, is that right Mum? and Mum are you 65? Sorry I should know these things....I have another sister who lives in Australia and she wishes she could be nearer to Mum.
Anyway so pleased to meet you all too
Regards Sarah

Hi, my name is Cathy, age 53 and I'm new to the forum. I was diagnosed with msa in April, though I have had symptoms for 3 3/4 years.

Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with diet/supplements? I am trying a few things now, for almost 3 weeks, to help with delivery of energy at cellular level, but not noticed any change yet.

One thing I have definitely found is that sweet, fizzy drinks make bladder problems worse, as does tea and I am better if I try to cut sugar out of my diet as much as poss. Also have all but given up alcohol as that makes bladder worse and balance too. I'm a believer in we are what we eat,

Lots of other question but that'll do for now.

Hi Cathy,
Re supplements, there is some interesting info on Coenzyme Q10 on the Parkinsons UK website http://www.parkinsons.org. Although we don't have any research based evidence to say it works in MSA many people living with MSA are telling me it helps them with tiredness and general well being. The down side is it isn't cheap!
Kind regards,
Samantha (MSA Nurse).
