In her latest blog, CEO, Karen Walker, reassures members and supporters that the Trust upholds the highest fundraising and governance standards
Charities have had a rough ride in the media recently and there have been good reasons for this.
Unfortunately the behaviour of the few affects the regulations for us all. I was shocked this weekend when I read the various reports from a number of inquiries regarding the selling on of lists of supporters between charities and even to commercial firms. This resulted in some people being bombarded for requests for money from charities, in some cases, they had never even heard of.
I wanted to reassure you – our incredible supporters – that this is not a practice the Trust has ever engaged in, nor would it. We value all our amazing supporters and appreciate just how much time and effort you put into activities to help us raise much needed funds for our MSA Nurse Specialist team, our Support Groups, our information and training sessions and the research that is so vital if we are ever to get to the magical place of no longer being needed as a charity because a cure has been found. What a day that would be!
In the meantime however I want to let you know that as a charity we have a great team of trustees who regularly oversee all our work. They review what has happened every quarter and they bring a range of skills from different sectors that enable me to confidently reassure our supporters that our governance practice and fundraising methods meet the good standards that are encouraged by the Charity Commission for all charities, no matter how big or small.
